Don’t Let Covid Ruin Your Holidays

There is no doubt the presence of coronovirus will affect the holidays this year.

Will families gather together? Will grandparents hug and kiss their grandchildren? Will people go to their house of worship?

With a second surge of the pandemic hitting just in time to merge with flu season, the cold winter and the holidays, many people will choose to scale down their visits or meet virtually.

Each family must decide how they will safely celebrate the season. But one thing I am sure of is that we need this season of joy. We need to celebrate the holidays and the end of 2020.

Traditionally, in many cultures, gifts are given during the holidays. Everyone delights in seeing the joy in a child’s eyes upon receipt of a special gift. Giving gifts makes us feel good.

This year, I am motivated to give homemade gifts. Maybe it’s because my youngest child is above the age of wanting toys. Or maybe it’s because we have moved to the country, or maybe it’s because I am tired of overconsumption and plastic waste.

It could also be that due to the pandemic, I am seeing things a little differently.

It is often said that the best gifts are those from the heart. While I could easily buy a special gift that would convey the love I feel for my family…
