The Power of One
Eating a plant-based diet supports the greater good but is also proven to be a health benefit to the individual. Of course, how one chooses to eat is a personal decision. But in order to make that decision one should have a clear understanding of the global consequences of their decision.
When the United States left the Paris Climate Agreement, frustrations of scientists and the educated public mounted world wide. After all, the Paris Agreement was not a cure all. It was a globally agreed upon START.
As noted by Jonathan Safran Foer in his book, We Are The Weather: Saving The Planet Begins at Breakfast, “limiting the rise of global warming by 2 degrees Celsius still results in a rise of ocean levels by 1.6 ft affecting the lives of hundreds of millions of people around the world. Heat storms, floods and droughts will increase in frequency and severity and entire ecosystems will be wiped out along with 99 percent of coral reefs.”
The facts are so unfathomable that many people are unwilling to let them sink in. Instead they ignore the problem altogether unless they are already witnessing the effects in their own backyard.
